Evolution of Video games The idea of the video game first evolved in 1951 when Ralph Baer (a senior engineer at Loral Electronics, Bronx, New York), was assigned the job of developing the 'best television set' in the world. Baer, who later came to be known as 'the father of video games',wanted to include 'interactive games' in the television but was not permitted by Loral Electronics. He pursued his idea in the late 1960s when he succeeded in creating an interactive game that could be played on the television. Sports Video Games, however, had begun with "Pong" (a game where there are two rods, on either side of the monitor moving up and down, that is controlled by the players in order to keep the ball) released by Atari7 in 1972. Pong was so successful that Atari introduced nine different versions of the game. Since then, the industry grew with the advancement of technology with the entry of many third party publishers... The Competition Established in 1982, EA has been the prominent videogame maker. Started off as a videogame software developer, it eventually entered into publishing and distributing software for 10 different videogame systems including Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation2, the Internet and personal computers. EA markets its games under four distinct brands: EAGAMES(TM) (which includes all non-sports games), EA SPORTS(TM) (which hasmore realistic, sports action), EA SPORTS BIG(TM) (which specializes in extreme and imaginative sports) and EA.Com(SM) (which has online games)... |
